At Outly, we believe in being transparent about how we use your data. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and how we protect it.

1. Who We Are

Outly is a food discovery app that connects diners with restaurants. We're based in Dover, Delaware, and our goal is to help people discover great food while helping restaurants get discovered.

2. Information We Collect

Information You Provide

We collect what you give us when you use Outly:

  • Account details: Name, email address, profile photo (via Google Sign-In)
  • Content you create: Reviews, ratings, photos of food, restaurant moments
  • Preferences: Favorite cuisines, saved restaurants, dietary preferences
  • Communications: Messages you send to restaurants or support

Information Collected Automatically

  • Location: Your current location (with your permission) to show nearby restaurants
  • Device info: Device type, operating system, app version (for bug fixes)
  • Usage data: Features you use, time spent in app, crash reports

Camera & Photo Library

We only access your camera or photos when you choose to upload a photo—like sharing a food moment or updating your profile. We never access your photos without your action.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your data to make Outly work:

  • Show relevant restaurants: Use your location to find nearby places
  • Personalize your experience: Recommend restaurants based on your preferences
  • Enable features: Let you post reviews, upload photos, earn badges
  • Improve the app: Fix bugs, analyze usage patterns, add features you want
  • Communicate: Send updates about your account or important app changes

4. Third-Party Services We Use

We partner with trusted services to run Outly:

  • Google Firebase: Handles user authentication (Google Sign-In) and push notifications
  • Google Places API: Provides restaurant information and location data
  • Azure Blob Storage: Securely stores your uploaded photos

These services have their own privacy policies. We only grant them access to data they need to perform their function.

5. Data Sharing & Selling

We don't sell your personal data. Period.

We may share information only when:

  • You make it public: Reviews and photos you post are visible to other users
  • With restaurants: When you message a restaurant or leave a review, they can see it
  • Service providers: Third parties who help us run the app (see above)
  • Legal requirements: If required by law (we'll notify you when possible)

6. Your Rights & Controls

You have full control over your data:

  • Access: View all your data in the app's profile section
  • Correct: Update your profile info anytime
  • Delete: Delete your account and all associated data permanently
  • Download: Export your data (reviews, photos, etc.)
  • Opt out: Turn off location access in your device settings
  • Unsubscribe: Opt out of marketing emails anytime

How to Delete Your Account & Data

To permanently delete your account and all associated data:

  1. Open the Outly app
  2. Go to Settings → Delete Account
  3. Confirm your decision
  4. Your data will be permanently deleted within 30 days

You can also request account deletion by emailing us at delete@outly.world from the email address associated with your account.

What gets deleted: Your profile, reviews, moments, photos, comments, likes, bookmarks, and all other personal data. Public reviews may be retained in anonymized form.

7. Location Data

We use your location to show restaurants near you. This is optional—you can deny location access and still use Outly, but you won't see location-based recommendations. We never track your location in the background.

8. Data Retention

We keep your data for as long as you have an account. If you delete your account, we permanently delete your personal data within 30 days. We may retain anonymized data for analytics after account deletion.

9. Security

We use industry-standard security measures including encryption, secure servers, and regular audits. However, no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure.

10. Children's Privacy

Outly is not intended for children under 13. We don't knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you're a parent and believe your child has used Outly, contact us.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We'll notify you of significant changes via email or in-app notification. Continued use of Outly after changes means you accept the new policy.
